The Mission of the Indiana Online Academy is to provide students with the means to earn high school credit, through the delivery of dynamic, engaging, standards-based curricula.

We believe:

• In infusing 21st Century Skills for each student in all IOA classes.
• In providing academic challenges for each student.
• In using a variety of teaching strategies to motivate each student to successfully master standards.
• In giving each student an equal opportunity to learn.
• In assisting each student to assume responsibility for personalized learning.
• In providing each student with highly qualified, licensed teachers for every class.
• In providing a high-tech environment with the means for frequent, personalized contact between the teacher and each student.

Accreditation

In June of 2009, The Indiana Online Academy was granted accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, the national commission that confers the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) accreditation seal.

The AdvancED ESA Accreditation Process provides a national protocol for education service agencies committed to systemic, systematic, and sustainable continuous improvement. The process supports, enhances, and stimulates growth and improvement throughout the agency.

The accreditation process involves three ongoing components: 1) meeting high quality standards; 2) implementing a continuous process of improvement; and 3) engaging in quality assurance through internal and external review. The agency’s accreditation is for a five-year term with regular monitoring of progress and reporting occurring during the term.

The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) is a non-governmental, voluntary association of public and private elementary and secondary schools in 19 states, the Navajo Nation, and the Department of Defense Education Activity worldwide. NCA CASI is an accreditation division of AdvancED, parent organization for NCA CASI and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). AdvancED is dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide.

The History of IOA

The Central Indiana Educational Service Center acquired IOA in the fall of 2005 and now offers over 50 high-school Core 40 and AP courses. IOA continues to fulfill the mission of public education by providing an alternative option for all students to achieve academic success.

Background of the CIESC

In 1976, Indiana Educational Service Centers (ESCs) were authorized by legislative action (code 20-1-11.3) to provide joint services, supplemental programs, and cooperative endeavors for Indiana K-12 schools. Central Indiana Educational Service Center (CIESC) was established in October 1990 with 10 Marion County public schools as members. The governing board comprised of Superintendents, represent each of the membership school districts. Today, CIESC's membership totals 23 school districts in and around Marion County, serving more than 13,500 administrators and teachers, as well as 183,820 students from 254 school buildings. Through commitment, cooperation and collaboration member school districts continue to expand the resources for central Indiana educators as well as educational opportunities for all students.
